Cross your index and middle finger. Now touch the tip with
the space where your finger crosses. Does it feel like you are touching two
noses? This is an example of what is called perceptual disjunction. Your brain
does not expect your finger to be crossed. And since it’s rare for the outside
of both fingers to be touching something your brain feels two separate noses.
Believe it or not it was the ancient
philosopher Aristotle who is said to have discovered this little brain game. After more than 2000 years later brain hack like this are still going strong.
